In the autumn of 2018, the life of 18-year-old Keimarre Galvin, a Black male, was tragically cut short in North Las Vegas, Nevada. On the evening of Tuesday, October 30, 2018, police responded to multiple reports of gunshots at an apartment complex located on the 3300 block of Civic Center Drive, near Cheyenne Avenue, around 6:20 p.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Galvin in the courtyard of the complex, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of first
responders, Keimarre Galvin succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His death was officially ruled a homicide by the Clark County coroner's office. The shooting was not believed to be a random act of violence. At the time, investigators began interviewing witnesses and processing the scene, as groups of people gathered nearby, their cries and shouts audible over the traffic on Civic Center Drive.
The death of Keimarre Galvin was the second fatal shooting to occur at the same apartment complex within a four-day span, creating a palpable sense of fear and unease in the community. On October 26, just days prior, 20-year-old Andru Jarone Rollins had also been shot and killed there. While police investigated the possibility of a connection between the two slayings, they did not definitively link the cases.
In the days and weeks that followed, the North Las Vegas Police Department continued their investigation into Galvin's death. However, despite their efforts and appeals to the public for information, a shooter fled the scene before police arrived. No suspects were publicly identified, and no arrests were made in connection with the murder of Keimarre Galvin. The case, like the shooting of Andru Jarone Rollins that preceded it, has left a void in the community and unanswered questions for a grieving family.
