On October 9, 2020, a tragic incident occurred in North Las Vegas, Nevada, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, Rafael Antonio Meneses and Debra Gallegos. Rafael Antonio Meneses, a 52-year-old man, was fatally shot by Debra Gallegos, a 50-year-old woman, in what was later determined to be a murder-suicide.
The events unfolded early in the morning when officers from the North Las Vegas Police Department were called to the Cheyenne Crossings apartments, located at 2630 E.
Cheyenne Ave., following a report of a 'suicidal female subject.' Upon arrival, police found Gallegos standing next to Meneses, who was already deceased. Gallegos refused to comply with the commands given by the police, leading the officers to retreat from the apartment while crisis negotiators and a SWAT team were summoned to the scene.
During the setup of the barricade, a gunshot was heard from inside the residence. A robot was subsequently sent into the apartment, where it was discovered that Gallegos had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound, resulting in her death. The Clark County coroner's office later confirmed that Meneses' death was ruled a homicide due to a gunshot wound to the head and neck, while Gallegos' death was ruled a suicide due to a gunshot wound to the head.
Debra Gallegos was identified as the suspect and the perpetrator of the murder-suicide. There were no other suspects involved in this incident. The investigation indicated that Gallegos was likely the one who made the initial 911 call, setting off the chain of events that led to the tragic outcome. No arrests were made in this case, as both individuals involved were deceased by the time the situation was resolved.
