In the bright midday glare of a North Las Vegas Sunday, the life of 19-year-old Tashon Logan, a Black/African American male, was brought to a sudden and violent end. It was just before noon on March 31, 2019, at a bustling Carey Mart gas station situated at the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Carey Avenue. Logan was seated in the driver's seat of a car, a familiar and everyday scene that was about to be irrevocably shattered.
With him was his 22-year-old girlfriend, who
had stepped out of the vehicle to speak with another male. A disturbance of some nature arose during their conversation, prompting Logan to also engage with the individual. The specifics of the disagreement remain clouded, but it was a prelude to tragedy. After the conversation appeared to conclude, the other male produced a firearm and fired multiple shots into the car, striking Logan. He died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was officially ruled a homicide. The shooter fled through the gas station parking lot.
The area was crowded with people at the time of the shooting, with many patrons at the convenience store and a large gathering for an event across the street. Investigators believed from the outset that this was not a random act of violence, suggesting that Logan and his attacker knew each other. Based on witness statements and surveillance footage, detectives were able to quickly identify a person of interest.
A few days later, on April 4, 2019, the North Las Vegas Police Department announced an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting. The suspect taken into custody was a juvenile male. Due to his age, authorities did not release his name to the public. The swift arrest brought a measure of progress to the investigation into the death of Tashon Logan, a young life cut short in a moment of gunfire.
