Jaylon Herdie Tiffith, a 29-year-old Black male, was fatally shot in North Las Vegas, Nevada on March 3, 2021. The incident occurred at an apartment complex located on the 3900 block of North Scott Robinson Boulevard, near West Alexander Road. When North Las Vegas police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Tiffith deceased from a gunshot wound to the head.
The ensuing investigation led to the arrest of 29-year-old Jamel Gibbs.
According to the arrest report, the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute. Tiffith was the ex-boyfriend of Gibbs's girlfriend and the father of her child. On the day of the incident, Tiffith was dropping off his daughter with her mother. An altercation reportedly began between Tiffith and the woman. She went back into her apartment, and shortly after, Gibbs emerged armed with a handgun.
A cousin of Tiffith, who had accompanied him and witnessed the event, told police that Gibbs shot Tiffith in the head. Following the shooting, Gibbs fled the scene in his girlfriend's vehicle, while she left on foot. Later that evening, the girlfriend went to a North Las Vegas police station to provide a statement about what had occurred. She informed investigators that Gibbs and Tiffith had previous arguments over the phone and on social media, often related to their mutual affection for her, but she had not heard any prior threats of physical violence. Jamel Gibbs was subsequently arrested and booked at the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of open murder with the use of a deadly weapon.
