On the evening of August 5, 2019, a day shy of his 59th birthday, Jeffrey Kay Boyajian, a 58-year-old Caucasian male, was driving into Las Vegas with a female companion. He had recently relocated from Las Vegas to Lake Elsinore, California, and was returning to celebrate his upcoming birthday with his mother. At approximately 7:23 p.m., Boyajian indicated his arrival in Las Vegas via a Facebook check-in.
Shortly after, between 7:30 and 7:40 p.m., his journey took a tragic and violent turn on northbound Interstate 15 near the Silverado Ranch Boulevard exit.
A white van, which had reportedly been tailgating Boyajian's Chrysler 300, pulled up alongside the driver's side. Without any apparent provocation, multiple shots were fired from the van into Boyajian's vehicle, striking him in the chest. His female passenger, who later stated that they had not cut off or engaged with the other vehicle, was physically unharmed but witnessed the horrific event. Boyajian was a devoted father to a teenage daughter and was known by friends and family for his love of the New England Patriots and attending concerts.
Emergency services responded, but Boyajian succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department launched a homicide investigation, appealing to the public for any information or dashcam footage from other drivers who were in the area at the time of the shooting. In the course of their investigation, authorities located the suspect's white van in the Westmont area of Los Angeles County, California. The vehicle was transported back to Las Vegas for forensic analysis. Despite the discovery of the van, the suspect or suspects responsible for Jeffrey Boyajian's death have not been publicly identified or arrested, and the case remains an unsolved homicide.
