In the early morning hours of November 8, 2020, the life of 34-year-old Brittany Smith, a Black / African American female, was tragically cut short in a violent encounter in Henderson, Nevada. The incident unfolded around 2:35 a.m. at a residence on the 3000 block of Warm Springs Road, near Green Valley Parkway. Responding to a 911 call where the dispatcher could hear "banging and yelling" in the background, Henderson police officers arrived to a grim scene.
Inside the home, they
discovered Brittany Smith and a man, later identified as 42-year-old Tony Carr, both deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. The Clark County coroner's office would later rule Smith's death a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds. A third individual, a 36-year-old man who was Smith's brother and Carr's former brother-in-law, was also found at the scene with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and was subsequently hospitalized. All three were living together at the time.
Investigations by the Henderson Police Department revealed a domestic-violence-related murder-suicide. Detectives determined that an argument had taken place just before the shooting. The investigation concluded that Tony Carr, who was identified as Smith's ex-husband, shot and killed her. He also fired multiple rounds into the home, injuring her brother. After a triple shooting that left two people dead in Henderson earlier this month has been ruled a murder-suicide, police said. A man shot and killed his ex-wife and then fired multiple rounds inside an apartment, wounding the victim's brother, who was expected to recover, Henderson Police said. The gunman, identified by the Clark County Coroner's Office as Tony Carr, 42, then turned the weapon on himself, police said. The coroner identified his ex-wife as 34-year-old Brittany Smith.
The Clark County coroner's office later confirmed that Carr's death was a suicide from a perforating gunshot wound to the head. The investigation concluded that Carr was the sole suspect in the homicide of Brittany Smith and the wounding of her brother. As the suspect took his own life, there were no arrests to be made in connection with Smith's death.
