In the early evening of December 11, 2021, a burst of violence shattered the quiet of a northwest Las Vegas neighborhood, claiming the life of 24-year-old Devion Malik Fields Pickett. An aspiring and beloved member of his community, Pickett, a Black / African American male, was inside a vehicle on the 3900 block of Prescott Pines Street when another car abruptly pulled alongside. Without warning, gunfire erupted from the passing vehicle, striking Pickett multiple times before the car sped away and vanished into the city.

The sharp crack of the gunshots prompted a call to the Metropolitan Police Department at approximately 8:39 p.m. Arriving officers discovered Pickett in his car, grievously wounded. Paramedics rushed him to University Medical Center, but the injuries he sustained were too severe. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Devion Malik Fields Pickett was pronounced dead. The Clark County coroner's office would later confirm that he died from multiple gunshot wounds, ruling his death a homicide.

In the days that followed, investigators worked to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. The initial investigation pointed to a drive-by shooting, a senseless act of violence that left a family grieving and a community in shock. However, the perpetrators had fled the scene, leaving little for the police to go on. In the immediate aftermath, no suspects were identified, and no arrests were made, leaving the case open and the search for justice ongoing. As of the latest available information, there have been no arrests in connection with the murder, and the investigation continues as authorities appeal to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible.
