La'Kia Lyshawn Dawkins, a 25-year-old Black female, was tragically killed on the night of Thursday, March 10, 2022, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The incident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 2200 block of North Torrey Pines Drive, near Smoke Ranch Road.

Responding to a call, officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department discovered La'Kia inside an apartment, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene. Investigators determined that she had been involved in a dispute with a man before the shooting. The gunman fled the location before police arrived. The Clark County Coroner's office later confirmed that her death was a homicide resulting from multiple gunshot wounds.

The investigation quickly pointed to her ex-boyfriend as the suspect in her murder. However, before an arrest could be made, the man was found deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His death was ruled a suicide. The mother of La'Kia Dawkins later spoke out about the warning signs of domestic violence, hoping to help others avoid a similar tragedy.
