In the vibrant city of Las Vegas, Nevada, a life was tragically cut short on the first of December in 2022. Dijon Snowden, a 31-year-old Black / African American male, was fatally wounded in a shooting that evening. The incident unfolded inside an apartment on Royal Crest Street, where Snowden was present with several other individuals. A dispute escalated into a violent confrontation, culminating in gunfire.
Snowden was struck by multiple bullets to his torso.
Another woman, in her 20s, was also injured in the shooting. Both were rushed to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Dijon Snowden succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The woman he was with sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The Clark County coroner's office later officially ruled Snowden's death a homicide.
The investigation into the shooting led the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to identify 18-year-old Jayda Jones as the primary suspect. Evidence gathered by detectives, including witness statements, video footage from a phone at the apartment prior to the shooting, and Jones' own social media posts, played a crucial role in his identification. One social media post reportedly showed Jones with the same handgun used in the shooting. Investigators were able to locate the weapon two weeks before Jones's arrest in the possession of another individual at the Rio.
In April 2023, Jayda Jones was arrested and booked on charges of murder and battery. Following his arrest, Jones allegedly claimed the shooting was accidental before refusing to answer further questions from the police. He was subsequently held in custody without bail.
