In the early evening of December 28, 2017, the life of 20-year-old Quintin Jakar Hicks, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in what would become a grim triple homicide investigation in North Las Vegas, Nevada. The scene of the violence was an apartment on Carroll Street, near the intersection of Civic Center Drive and Lake Mead Boulevard.
It was here that Quintin, his 44-year-old mother Carole Joyce Patterson, and a third individual, 22-year-old Anthony Jaurice Vance, were discovered by responding police officers.
Neighbors had alerted authorities after hearing the sound of gunshots around 4 p.m. that afternoon. Inside the residence that Quintin shared with his mother, law enforcement found all three victims deceased. The Clark County Coroner's Office would later confirm that each had died from a gunshot wound to the head. While Quintin and his mother lived in the apartment, Anthony Vance was a visitor. The shocking loss of three lives in a single event sent ripples of grief and fear through the community.
In the months that followed, the North Las Vegas Police Department actively investigated the triple homicide, searching for answers and seeking justice for the victims and their families. By March of 2018, detectives announced they were seeking the public's help to identify a person of interest in the case. They described this individual as a Black male, between 20 and 30 years old, standing approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall, and weighing around 160 pounds. Despite this public appeal and the ongoing investigation, a motive for the killings has not been released, and no arrests have been made in connection with the deaths of Quintin Jakar Hicks, Carole Joyce Patterson, and Anthony Jaurice Vance. The case remains an unsolved tragedy.
