In the late summer of 2003, a sense of unease settled over a home in Denver. Inside, Paul Bernal, a 33-year-old man, was with his girlfriend when their lives were irrevocably shattered. The ordinary moments of their day were violently interrupted by the intrusion of two unknown men. The intruders, with motives rooted in greed, demanded money and drugs, turning a private sanctuary into a scene of terror.
