On July 19, 1973, at approximately 12:00 AM, Denver Police Department officers responded to a reported shooting near West 34th Avenue and Mariposa Street. Upon arrival, they discovered 35-year-old Frank Ortega lying in the street across from the Mambo Night Club. Ortega was immediately transported to a local hospital but succumbed to the gunshot wounds he had sustained.
