On the late evening of May 21, 1975, a 33-year-old Black male named Jimmie Smith had just finished his time at Glenn's Grill in Denver. As he made his way toward his vehicle, the night was shattered by the sound of a gunshot. An unknown assailant fired at Jimmie, leaving him severely wounded.
Emergency services were quickly summoned, and Jimmie was rushed to a local hospital.
Despite the urgent medical attention he received, his injuries proved to be fatal, and he died shortly after arriving. The incident was ruled a homicide by the Denver Police Department. Investigators determined that prior to his death, Jimmie had spent some time in the state of Kentucky.
