On the evening of March 12, 1982, James Kazewych, a 41-year-old White male, was getting ready to close up his business for the night. As the owner of the Silver Fox Bar, located on the north side of Interstate 70 at Glencoe Street in Denver, he spoke with a friend, mentioning he was about to head home. That phone call would be one of the last times anyone would hear from him.
When he failed to arrive at his destination later that evening, his friend grew worried, a sense of unease setting in as the hours passed.
A search was soon initiated to find the missing bar owner. The search tragically ended in the very place he was last known to be: the parking lot of the Silver Fox Bar. There, inside his own vehicle, James Kazewych was discovered. He had been shot to death, his life taken in a violent encounter that has remained a mystery for decades. The Denver Police Department was called to the scene, and an investigation into the homicide began, cataloged under case number 82-736280.
Despite the passage of time, the murder of James Kazewych remains an unsolved cold case. Investigators have not publicly identified any suspects in connection with the shooting, and no arrests have ever been made.
