On the evening of September 5, 2004, a young Black man named Deshaun Briscoe was standing on a corner at 3405 Fillmore Street in Denver with a group of his friends. The 22-year-old and his companions noticed a car drive by and circle the block. Shortly after, the scene took a violent turn when an unknown Black male, with his face obscured by a black scarf and dressed entirely in black, ran towards the group.
The assailant specifically singled out Deshaun Briscoe and opened fire, shooting
him multiple times. After Briscoe fell to the ground wounded, the gunman shot him several more times. Some of Briscoe's friends bravely attempted to intervene and defend him, but the suspect managed to evade them and flee the scene.
The shooter was last seen escaping eastbound on 34th Avenue in a dark-colored vehicle. To date, no arrests have been made in the case, and the suspect remains unidentified. The Denver Police Department continues to seek information from the public that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of the individual responsible for Deshaun Briscoe's murder. His case is listed among Denver's cold case homicides.
