In the quiet mountains of Colorado, the life of Melba Jean Ginther, a 57-year-old White female, came to a tragic and mysterious end. On the evening of May 20, 2002, her body was discovered lying behind a green pickup truck on a dirt road off U.S. Highway 24, near the historic Camp Hale between Red Cliff and Leadville. An autopsy would later reveal that she had been shot in the back of the head with a rifle, a brutal end to a life that was, in many ways, lived in solitude.
