On a summer evening in Denver, what began as a night out for a group of friends ended in tragedy. Eighteen-year-old Marlon Horton, a Black male, was with three friends on July 5, 2002, for Teen Night at a nightclub called the Roxy, located in the area of 25th and Welton Streets. As they made their way through the parking lot, a vehicle passed by, and an argument broke out between the people in the car and Horton's group.
The verbal confrontation quickly escalated to gunfire.
Shots were fired from the vehicle towards Marlon and his friends. In the chaos that ensued, Horton was struck by one of the bullets and fatally wounded. One of his friends was also hit by the gunfire but managed to survive the injuries.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Denver Police Department launched a homicide investigation. However, the suspects in the vehicle were not immediately identified, and the case has since gone cold. To date, there have been no arrests made in connection with the murder of Marlon Horton, and the case remains unsolved. Authorities continue to ask for anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward.
