In the late evening hours of March 4, 2003, Rito Lopez, a 22-year-old male, was asleep in his bed in his Denver, Colorado residence. The tranquility of the night was shattered when multiple suspects forced their way into his home. Once inside, the intruders demanded money from Lopez.
During the course of the violent home-invasion robbery, one of the suspects shot Lopez. He was immediately transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Rito Lopez succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after midnight on March 5, 2003.
The Denver Police Department investigated the homicide, but no arrests have been made in the case. The identities of the suspects involved in the home invasion and murder of Rito Lopez remain unknown. The case has since become a cold case, and authorities continue to ask for anyone with information to come forward.
