On a late spring evening in Aurora, Colorado, tragedy befell Shawn Michael Hicks, a 37-year-old white male. On May 28, 2012, at approximately 11:26 p.m., the hum of the city was interrupted by what appeared to be a single-vehicle accident at the intersection of East Alameda Avenue and South Ironton Street. First responders arriving at the scene discovered a car that had come to a stop and inside, they found Shawn Michael Hicks in the driver's seat, unresponsive.
