On a cold February night in Aurora, Colorado, a traffic stop escalated into a fatal encounter for Troy Michael Jacques. The 41-year-old man was pulled over by an Aurora police officer on the evening of February 10, 2018. According to police accounts, the situation quickly intensified when Jacques, who was armed with a semiautomatic handgun, pointed the weapon at the officer.
The officer, later identified as Chad Warner, responded by firing his weapon multiple times.
Jacques sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was subsequently pronounced dead. The Arapahoe County coroner's office officially ruled his death a homicide. Police officials stated that the night prior to the fatal traffic stop, Jacques had reportedly pointed his gun at other motorists.
Following the incident, the 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office conducted an investigation into the shooting. Based on evidence that included body camera footage and the officer's account, the district attorney concluded that Officer Warner's actions were justified. The report stated that Warner acted in self-defense, as he believed Jacques was about to use the gun against him. Consequently, no charges were filed against the officer in connection with the death of Troy Michael Jacques.
