In the early morning hours of December 18, 2012, a tragic event unfolded in a quiet Longmont, Colorado subdivision, ending the life of 22-year-old Maria Cintora-Silva. A recent homebuyer and newlywed, Maria, who was born in Yuriria, Mexico, was known for her vibrant personality and her love of life. She had recently started a job she loved at US Bank and was building a new life with her husband, Maximino Aguirre Ojeda.
The peace of their new home was shattered when Daniel Sanchez, the
31-year-old ex-boyfriend of Maria's sister, Beatriz Cintora-Silva, forced his way into their residence. Just hours earlier, Sanchez had been released from the Boulder County Jail after being arrested for domestic violence against Beatriz. Beatriz had recently ended her relationship with Sanchez and had sought refuge in her sister's home. In an act of jealousy and rage, Sanchez shot and killed Maria, her husband Maximino, and his ex-girlfriend Beatriz before turning the gun on himself.
The horror of the event was captured in a chilling 911 call made by one of the women in the house. The dispatcher heard cries of 'No, no, no,' followed by the sound of gunfire. Sanchez then got on the line and informed the dispatcher he was going to kill himself, after which another gunshot was heard. When law enforcement arrived, they found a devastating scene. Maria and her husband were found deceased in one bedroom, while Beatriz and Sanchez were found in another. Investigators recovered a. 45-caliber Glock handgun near Sanchez's body. The incident was ruled a triple murder-suicide, leaving a community in mourning and a family irrevocably broken.
