On a warm Friday evening, August 18, 2017, the life of An Tan Nguyen, a 38-year-old man, was tragically cut short in a shooting near City Park in Denver. The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. near the intersection of 28th Avenue and Albion Street, a normally quiet residential area. Nguyen was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to Denver Health, where he succumbed to his injuries. His death was ruled a homicide.
He was a beloved father of seven children, and his family described him as a wonderful husband, son, brother, and friend.
The motive for the shooting remains a mystery to investigators. Witnesses at the scene provided descriptions of two suspects. Both were described as young Black men, estimated to be around 18 years of age. One of the suspects was said to be about 5-foot-5, with a thin build, weighing between 135 and 140 pounds. He was reportedly wearing a camouflage jacket in shades of tan, brown, and green. The second suspect was described as being between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-7 with a medium build, weighing approximately 160 to 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white jacket, possibly made of denim, and was armed with a handgun.
In the years following the shooting, no arrests have been made, and the case remains unsolved. The Denver Police Department has continued to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to the identification and apprehension of the suspects. In an effort to generate new leads, Metro Denver Crime Stoppers has offered a reward for information that results in the arrest and charging of those responsible. The family of An Tan Nguyen has also contributed to this reward fund, hoping that it will encourage someone with knowledge of the crime to come forward. The community continues to seek justice for a man whose life was taken so suddenly and senselessly.
