On a September evening in Denver, Colorado, the life of 20-year-old Briseidy Jimenez-Ortega was tragically cut short. The young Hispanic woman, also known as 'Brezzy,' was fatally shot on September 7, 2018, near West 39th Avenue and Bryant Street. Following the incident, she was transported to a hospital where she succumbed to her gunshot wound.
The events leading to her death reportedly began with a phone argument with 19-year-old Elijah Lucero.
Witnesses informed police that Jimenez-Ortega had asked to be driven to Lucero's location. Upon arrival, she exited the vehicle while it was still moving slowly and approached Lucero in front of a house. It was then that multiple witnesses saw Lucero pull out a gun and shoot her.
Following the shooting, Lucero fled the scene, prompting a manhunt. The Denver Police Department offered a $2,000 reward for information leading to his whereabouts and warned that he should be considered armed and dangerous. The search for Lucero concluded on September 26, 2018, when he was arrested in the 1700 block of West Jewell Avenue. He was subsequently booked into the Denver County Jail and faced charges of first-degree murder.
