In the winter of 2021, a heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded in a quiet Denver, Colorado home, claiming the life of one-month-old Atlas Roe Grooms. On January 13th, the infant girl and her mother, 34-year-old Suni Grooms, were found deceased inside their residence in the Platt Park neighborhood. The grim discovery was made after concerned neighbors notified police that the home's lights had been left on and the garbage cans remained at the curb.

Subsequent investigation by the Denver Police Department revealed the devastating truth of a double murder-suicide. The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner determined that both Atlas and her mother died from gunshot wounds in a homicide. The person responsible for their deaths was identified as 38-year-old Denton Roberts, Suni Grooms' boyfriend and the father of young Atlas.

After shooting his girlfriend and their infant daughter, Roberts then turned the gun on himself, succumbing to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation concluded that it was a domestic-related incident, and authorities reported no prior calls for domestic violence at the South Logan Street home. The incident left the community and loved ones of the victims in shock and mourning, grappling with the sudden and violent loss of a mother and her newborn child at the hands of their partner and father.
