In the early morning hours of Sunday, June 2, 2019, the Westwood neighborhood of Denver was rattled by a shooting that would claim the life of 27-year-old Michael Magallanes. The incident occurred in the 5100 block of Morrison Road, where police responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 6 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Magallanes with injuries that would ultimately prove fatal.
Initially, the Denver Police Department was tight-lipped about the extent of his injuries,
but by 10 a.m. that same morning, the investigation had been upgraded to a homicide. The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner later formally identified the victim as Michael David Magallanes. Despite the gravity of the crime, authorities released no information about a potential suspect or suspects in the immediate aftermath of the shooting.
In the days that followed, the investigation into Magallanes's death continued, with little public information being made available. In an effort to generate leads, the Denver Police Department announced a reward of up to $2,000 for any information that could help them solve the case. This appeal to the public underscored the lack of immediate witnesses or evidence to point them toward a person of interest.
The investigation also considered a possible connection to another fatal shooting and assault that had occurred just a mile away in Lakewood on the same morning, leaving one person dead and three others injured. However, the Denver Police Department stated that they could not definitively link the two violent incidents. As time has passed, no arrests or identification of suspects in the murder of Michael Magallanes have been publicly announced, leaving his case unsolved and his loved ones without answers.
