Benard Monroe, aged 60, was shot and killed on February 25, 2015, while shoveling a neighbor’s sidewalk on Chicago's South Side. Monroe, who was known for helping others in his neighborhood, had gone out to make extra money after the snowfall. At around 7:20 p.m., he was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the right side of his head, lying beside his shovel.
