In the early hours of May 2, 2026, the city of Chicago was once again confronted with the specter of gun violence. On this particular day, 58-year-old Charles Heard was in the Douglas neighborhood on the South Side, sitting in a vehicle, when the quiet of the morning was shattered by the sound of gunfire.
