In the fall of 2019, a Littleton, Colorado man named Rene Perez, 56, was the victim of a fatal shooting that appeared to be a random act of violence. On the evening of October 15th, police responded to an apartment complex in the 200 block of South Teller Street where they discovered Perez in the parking lot with an apparent gunshot wound. He was rushed to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

Within a month of the shooting, law enforcement officials announced the arrests of four individuals in connection with Perez's death. The suspects were identified as 20-year-old Philippe Destree, 19-year-old Dominic Joseph Maestas, 18-year-old Manuel Garcia, and 21-year-old Autumn Lucero. All four were taken into custody and faced serious charges, including first-degree murder. At the time of the incident, court records indicated that three of the four suspects were already on probation for other offenses. The suspects were held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail as the legal proceedings against them commenced.
