In the early evening of a late March day in Aurora, Colorado, the life of 19-year-old DaVeon Michael Brooks, a young Black man, was tragically cut short. On March 26, 2020, just before 8:30 p.m., emergency responders were called to the area of East 30th Avenue and Xanadu Street. There, they found DaVeon lying in the road, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to the UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
