On an Easter Sunday in Aurora, Colorado, the life of 18-year-old Sir’Sedric Donavan Gregg was tragically cut short. On the evening of April 12, 2020, police received several calls about a disturbance, followed by reports of a shooting at the Sonoma Resort Apartments. When officers arrived at the scene in the 22300 block of East Ontario Drive, they found Sir’Sedric Donavan Gregg inside an apartment with a gunshot wound to the head.
He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Arapahoe County Coroner's Office later ruled his death a homicide.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the suspect fled the apartment complex. However, in a surprising turn of events, he later returned to the scene and was taken into custody by the Aurora Police Department. The individual arrested was identified as 20-year-old Donovan Anthony Brown. The investigation that followed revealed a heartbreaking detail: Brown and Gregg were described as being 'best friends.'
According to court documents, Donovan Anthony Brown's father, Melvin Brown, told police that his son arrived at his apartment around 9:40 p.m., distraught and crying. His son confessed to him, 'I shot Sir.' Melvin Brown then drove his son back to the apartment where the shooting had occurred, leading to his arrest. The elder Brown characterized the shooting as a 'serious, stupid f***ing accident.' Donovan Anthony Brown was subsequently arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and was held at the Arapahoe County jail.
