Police were investigating a fatal shooting Saturday morning at an apartment complex in an area of north Phoenix.

Sgt. Tommy Thompson said 47-year-old Charles Cheatham was shot to death inside his vehicle at about 12:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Villa Mira Monte Apartments near 19th and Peoria avenues.

Police said the shooting is being investigated as a homicide.
