On October 7, 2022, Tanya Scowden, a 47-year-old female, was fatally shot in Westminster, Colorado. The incident that led to her death was rooted in a complex and fraught personal relationship. Scowden was the manager of the Storage Etc. self-storage facility, where she also resided.
The investigation into her death revealed that Scowden was involved in a romantic relationship with the estranged husband of Sheryl Salzbrenner.
This relationship is believed to have been the catalyst for the violent confrontation that ultimately claimed Scowden's life. On the day of the incident, Salzbrenner entered the main office of the storage facility and shot Scowden in the head.
Westminster police detectives swiftly launched an investigation, interviewing multiple individuals at the storage facility and reviewing surveillance footage. The video evidence proved crucial in identifying Sheryl Salzbrenner, then 44, as the suspect. Just a day after the shooting, on October 8, 2022, Salzbrenner was arrested by Westminster police. She was subsequently held at the Jeffco Detention Facility without bond on charges of first-degree murder.
