In the early morning hours of December 17, 2022, tragedy struck in Colorado Springs, Colorado, claiming the life of 42-year-old Elijah Beatty. The male victim was at an unlicensed after-hours nightclub located in the 2500 block of Airport Road when gunfire erupted. The Colorado Springs Police Department received a 911 call reporting the shooting at 4:32 a.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a chaotic situation with three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.

Amid the violence, Elijah Beatty was found deceased. His death marked the 51st homicide investigation in the city of Colorado Springs for 2022. The El Paso County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy and officially identified Beatty, a resident of Colorado Springs, as the victim. The investigation into Beatty's death continued for several months. Detectives worked to piece together the events that transpired inside the unlicensed nightclub. Their efforts eventually led to the identification of a suspect. On June 22, 2023, the Colorado Springs Police Department's Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force arrested 20-year-old Omar Martinez-Sarmiento.
