On July 25, 1979, Patrolman Royce Leroy Bennett, a 25-year-old law enforcement officer from Deming, New Mexico, was tragically killed in the line of duty. The incident occurred during a routine traffic stop, a situation that is often fraught with unpredictability and danger.
