On July 13, 2014, 21-year-old Charles 'Charlie' Davlin, a resident of Los Lunas, New Mexico, was fatally shot following an altercation at an Allsup's convenience store on Highway 314. The confrontation escalated when a group of individuals followed Davlin's vehicle as he drove along Los Lentes Road, ultimately opening fire and causing his death.
In the aftermath of the shooting, authorities launched an investigation that led to the arrest of several suspects.
George Bond, then 25 years old, was apprehended in February 2016 after an extensive manhunt. He faced charges including first-degree murder, shooting from a motor vehicle resulting in death, and tampering with evidence. Alongside Bond, individuals such as Ernesto Gallegos and Monalisa Pollock were also detained on related charges.
Despite the arrests, the legal proceedings encountered significant challenges. In December 2016, George Bond stood trial for his alleged involvement in Davlin's murder. However, the jury acquitted Bond of the murder charge, with reports indicating that unreliable witness testimonies, instances of perjury, and refusals to testify hindered the prosecution's case. The jury deadlocked on a minor charge of conspiracy, leaving the possibility of a retrial on that count uncertain.
