In the quiet community of Los Lunas, New Mexico, a dispute over stolen property escalated into deadly violence on the morning of February 19, 2021, claiming the lives of two brothers. Rudy Romero, a 32-year-old Hispanic male, and his older brother, 38-year-old Henry Romero Jr., were found shot to death at a residence on Meadow Lake Road. The tragic event sent ripples of shock and grief through their family and the local community.
The Valencia County Sheriff's Office launched an
immediate investigation into the double homicide. Detectives were told that the incident stemmed from a disagreement concerning stolen items, which ultimately led to the fatal shootings. The investigation quickly pointed towards several individuals, and the pursuit of justice for the Romero brothers began. The swift actions of law enforcement would bring a resolution to the case in less than a week.
Within days, authorities made significant progress. On February 25, 2021, the Valencia County Sheriff's Office announced the arrests of four suspects in connection with the murders. The first to be apprehended was 37-year-old Felicia Anaya, who was taken into custody after a brief foot chase at the scene of the crime. Later that same day, two more suspects, 29-year-old David Maestes and 26-year-old Samuel Maestes, turned themselves in to the authorities. The final suspect, 25-year-old Jacob Arnold, was arrested at his home shortly thereafter. All four individuals were booked into the Valencia County Detention Center, facing charges related to the deaths of Rudy and Henry Romero.
