Anastasia “Anna” Vigil, a 27-year-old woman, was shot on August 8, 2014, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and died from her wounds. She was attacked at a Northeast Heights auto-detailing shop on Vassar NE, near Candelaria and Girard, where she had gone to see her boyfriend during the lunch hour. Police identified her publicly in the days that followed; memorial and news listings later confirmed her full name and age.
Investigators said the gunman was Marcos Delgado, the victim’s ex-boyfriend. According to a criminal complaint described by local reporters, Delgado had sent threatening text messages shortly before the shooting, arrived at the shop, rammed a man with his car, and then opened fire. Three women inside the business—one of them pregnant—were also struck by bullets; all were expected to survive. Even a dog inside was hit and treated. Officers said the attack appeared to be driven by jealousy after Vigil began dating the shop’s owner.
Authorities launched a multi-agency manhunt. An arrest warrant for murder was issued, naming Delgado as the suspect and warning the public that he was armed and dangerous. Four days after the killing, Albuquerque police announced the search had ended: Delgado died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot after a brief chase in which he fired at officers; no officers returned fire. Because the suspect died during the manhunt, there were no arrests in the case.
