On May 2, 2019, the life of 43-year-old Bobby Lee Nunez of Roswell, New Mexico, was tragically cut short. A loving son, father, brother, uncle, and cousin, he was known for his loud, contagious laugh and a heart so big he would give the shirt off his back to someone in need. He was born on Christmas Eve in 1975 and was a cherished member of his family.
The circumstances of his death unfolded at the home of Robert Moody in Roswell.
Moody, who was later charged in connection with Nunez's death, claimed that he acted in self-defense, stating that Nunez had threatened to kill him. However, investigators found that the physical evidence at the scene did not align with Moody's account of the events. Further contradicting the self-defense claim were witness testimonies suggesting the confrontation was not a personal threat but stemmed from a business disagreement between the two men.
Following the incident, Robert Moody turned himself into the authorities. Despite his surrender, the inconsistencies between his statement and the evidence gathered by investigators led to him facing charges for the murder of Bobby Nunez. The case against Moody is built on these discrepancies and the witness accounts of a business dispute. Bobby Nunez, who was lost to gun violence, is survived by his son, daughter, girlfriend, parents, siblings, and a large extended family who remember his huge smile and the love he had for them.
