On a Saturday evening in Roswell, New Mexico, the life of 33-year-old Alberto Uel Dreamer Marin was tragically cut short. On June 8, 2019, the man, known to his loved ones as "Beto" or "Dreamer," was fatally shot as he was getting out of his vehicle. The shooting marked the first homicide in the city for that year. Marin succumbed to his injuries the following day, leaving behind a grieving family and a community seeking answers.
Born in Stockton, California, Marin was a husband to his wife, Desiree, and a father to their six children. He was remembered as a loving family man and a hard worker. The unexpected violence left his family and friends in deep mourning as they prepared for a future without him.
The Roswell Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting. Their efforts led them to identify a suspect in the case, Jesus Alberto Robles, a 34-year-old resident of Roswell. A month after the fatal shooting, on July 10, 2019, Robles was located and apprehended in Las Cruces, New Mexico, by the Las Cruces Police Department.
Following his arrest, Robles faced legal proceedings for his role in Marin's death. He was ultimately tried and found guilty of the charges brought against him. The conviction resulted in a prison sentence, bringing a measure of closure to a case that had deeply affected the Roswell community and, most profoundly, the family of Alberto Marin.
