On a Sunday in late November of 2020, the life of Tchicaya Marie Williams, a 38-year-old Black/African American woman, was tragically cut short in Clovis, New Mexico. On November 29th, inside her own mother's home, Williams became the victim of a fatal shooting. The sudden and violent nature of her death left her family and community in shock and mourning. Williams was a mother to six children who, according to her family, were the center of her world.
She was remembered as someone who loved life, enjoyed reading and dancing, and was often the heart of any gathering.
In the aftermath of the shooting, an investigation was launched by the Clovis Police Department. Despite the efforts of her family to provide what they believed were viable leads to law enforcement, the case did not move forward as they had hoped. Less than six months after Tchicaya Williams was killed, her family was faced with the devastating news that investigators had marked her case as inactive. This decision was made even as her loved ones continued to seek answers and justice for her untimely death.
