On August 28, 2022, a tragic incident occurred in Northeast Albuquerque, New Mexico, resulting in the deaths of Nicole Amaya, 33, and Bernabe Jurado, 49. The incident took place at an apartment complex located at 9223 Marron Circle, N.E., near the intersection of Lomas Blvd and I-25. Albuquerque Police Department officers responded to a shooting call at 5:21 a.m. and upon arrival, they found both Amaya and Jurado with gunshot wounds.
Unfortunately, both victims died at the scene.
The investigation conducted by APD homicide detectives revealed that the shooting was a result of a confrontation involving Jayme Olson, 27, who is accused of committing the double homicide. According to witnesses, Olson's girlfriend had been involved in a verbal and physical altercation with Nicole Amaya over issues related to money and property. This altercation escalated, leading to Olson shooting Amaya. Subsequently, Olson also shot Bernabe Jurado, who was present and witnessed the initial shooting.
Jayme Olson was identified as the primary suspect in this case. Through thorough investigation, APD gathered sufficient evidence to charge Olson with two open counts of murder and tampering with evidence. On November 28, 2022, Olson was arrested by the U.S. Marshal Service in Mountainair, New Mexico. Following his arrest, Olson was booked into the Metro Detention Center to face the charges related to the double homicide.
Olson's involvement in the crime was further substantiated by witness accounts and other evidence collected during the investigation. His girlfriend's altercation with Amaya served as the catalyst for the violent events that unfolded. The case highlights the severe consequences of disputes that escalate into violent acts, resulting in the loss of lives.
In December 2022, Jayme Olson pleaded not guilty to the charges of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence. This plea was entered as the legal proceedings against him continued, marking a significant step in the judicial process aimed at determining his culpability in the deaths of Nicole Amaya and Bernabe Jurado.
