Darnell O. Harrison, a 26-year-old Black / African American male, tragically lost his life on January 5, 2010, in Brockton, Massachusetts. His death was the result of gun violence. On that Tuesday, Harrison was shot four times behind a local establishment known as The Lit Bar. He was a father of five children.
The investigation into Harrison's death led to the identification of a suspect, Kyle Bryant.
The motive for the shooting was described by the District Attorney as an "attack of revenge" and not a random act of violence.
In October 2013, a jury found Kyle Bryant, who was 31 at the time, guilty of one count of Murder in the First Degree and one count of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. The trial lasted for two weeks, and the jury deliberated for two hours before reaching their verdict. As a result of the conviction, Bryant was sentenced to life in state prison without the possibility of parole. He also received a concurrent sentence of four to five years for the firearm conviction. In July 2019, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court affirmed the convictions, ensuring that Bryant would remain incarcerated for the murder of Darnell Harrison.
