On a cold December evening in Brockton, Massachusetts, the life of 26-year-old Marshawn Potts, a Black / African American male, was tragically cut short. On December 13, 2019, at approximately 9:00 PM, police responded to reports of a shooting at 10 Shaw Road. Upon arrival, they discovered Potts in the driveway, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators quickly determined that the shooting was not a random act of violence.
The investigation into the death of Marshawn Potts led authorities to identify a suspect: Witchael Normil of Milton. In the months following the incident, Normil became the subject of an intense manhunt. Believing he was actively evading law enforcement, the Massachusetts State Police added him to their "Most Wanted" list in July 2020. An arrest warrant was issued, charging him with murder. Normil was described as having an extensive criminal history, including prior convictions for assault and weapons offenses, and was considered armed and dangerous.
After an extensive investigation that spanned international borders, authorities determined that Normil had fled the country. In a coordinated effort between the Massachusetts State Police, the U.S. Marshals Service, and Brockton Police, Normil was located in the Dominican Republic. He was apprehended on October 21, 2020. Following his capture, he was deported back to the United States and transported to Brockton to face charges for the murder of Marshawn Potts.
