In the early morning hours of February 5, 2022, the life of Harry James Williams, a 51-year-old Black / African American man, was tragically cut short. Police responded to a report of a person shot on Auna Drive in Brockton, Massachusetts, at approximately 2:40 a.m. Upon arrival, they found Williams suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting was a collaborative effort
between the Brockton Police and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office. Through interviews with numerous witnesses, the collection of physical evidence, and a review of video surveillance, investigators were able to identify a suspect. Just three days after the fatal shooting, on February 8, 2022, authorities located and arrested 26-year-old Kevin Gomes in Worcester. Gomes was taken into custody without incident.
In April 2022, a Plymouth County grand jury returned indictments against Gomes for murder, carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm, and discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. Two other individuals were also implicated in the case. Ryan Harris, 29, was indicted on charges of accessory after the fact and witness intimidation by misleading police, for allegedly helping Gomes flee and providing false information to investigators. Jenna Deane, 34, was also indicted on a charge of witness intimidation by misleading police. In March 2025, Kevin Gomes was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and unlawful firearm possession and was sentenced to 10 to 12 years in state prison for the shooting death of Harry Williams.
