What should have been a minor disagreement in traffic spiraled into violence in the parking lot of the fast-food restaurant.

Their efforts quickly led them to a suspect, Deonarine Ganga, then 29 years old, of Dorchester. Investigators discovered that Ganga was already in custody, having been arrested on April 14, the day after the shooting, on an outstanding warrant for an unrelated incident where he had allegedly threatened someone with a gun. In December 2018, a jury found Deonarine Ganga guilty of first-degree murder. Prosecutors successfully argued that the shooting was the senseless result of a road rage incident. For the murder of Joey DeBarros, Ganga received a mandatory sentence of life in prison.
