On the morning of August 14, 2018, a Black or African American man named Yashua Amado, 29 years old, was fatally shot in Boston, Massachusetts. Amado and a friend had just picked up breakfast in Mattapan Square and were sitting in his parked car on Deering Road at approximately 9:46 a.m. when the attack occurred. An unidentified gunman exited a red GMC Acadia, approached Amado's vehicle, and fired multiple shots into the driver's side and windshield. After the shooting, the gunman returned to the waiting SUV, which then fled the area. Amado was killed in the triple shooting, and two other individuals were wounded.

The investigation into the murder led authorities to Dewane Tse, a then 37-year-old man from Providence, Rhode Island. Evidence showed that Tse had rented the red GMC Acadia two days prior to the shooting. Security camera footage captured Tse's vehicle in the area before Amado arrived in Mattapan Square and then showed the SUV following Amado's car. Approximately one hour after the murder, cameras recorded Tse returning the rented vehicle to a parking garage at Government Center. This evidence led to Tse's arrest and he was charged in connection with Yashua Amado's death.

In December 2021, a Suffolk Superior Court jury convicted Dewane Tse of first-degree murder and armed assault with intent to murder. In January 2022, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. However, the man who fired the shots that killed Yashua Amado was never identified and remains at large. In a significant turn of events, in November 2024, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court overturned Tse's murder conviction. The court ruled that prosecutors had not presented sufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Tse knew his passenger intended to commit the shooting or was even aware that the passenger was armed. As a result of this decision, the case of Yashua Amado's murder remains unresolved, with the actual shooter still unidentified.
