On a tragic day in June of 2017, the life of 15-year-old Joshua Goyette, a White male, came to a devastating end in Chicopee, Massachusetts. The events of June 8th unfolded within the family home, culminating in a sequence of violence that would leave two people dead and a community in shock. The day had reportedly begun with difficulties at school, leading to Joshua being sent home due to behavioral problems.
His mother, 50-year-old Mary Danehy, had picked him up from school at the request of administrators.
What transpired inside their home later that day was a scene of horror. At some point after returning from school, a violent altercation occurred. Authorities later determined that Joshua fatally stabbed his mother multiple times. The grim discovery was made after firefighters responded to a medical alert that had been activated at the residence. Upon their arrival, they encountered Joshua's 88-year-old grandfather outside the house. He recounted hearing a disturbance followed by the sound of a gunshot from within the home.
Inside, first responders found the bodies of both Mary Danehy and her son, Joshua Goyette. Investigators concluded that after stabbing his mother, Joshua died from a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound. A firearm was recovered near his body. The Hampden District Attorney's office officially ruled the deaths a murder-suicide, with Joshua Goyette as the perpetrator in his mother's death and subsequently the victim of his own actions. As a result, there were no arrests made or outstanding suspects sought in connection with the death of Joshua Goyette.
