On the evening of October 12, 2018, the life of 26-year-old Xavier Jourdan, a male resident of Springfield, Massachusetts, was tragically cut short by gun violence. At approximately 9:07 p.m., officers from the Springfield Police Department were dispatched to the vicinity of Cambridge Street and Burr Street after the city's ShotSpotter system detected gunfire.
Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene.
A motor vehicle had come to a stop between a fence and a telephone pole, and inside, they found Xavier Jourdan. He had sustained an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene. It appeared that he had been the driver of the vehicle at the time of the incident.
The Springfield Police Department's Homicide Unit, in conjunction with the Hampden District Attorney's Office's Murder Unit, immediately launched a homicide investigation into Jourdan's death. Authorities offered their sympathies to his family during the difficult time and described the investigation as open and active.
