In the afternoon of July 17, 2019, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a Roslindale neighborhood in Boston, leaving a young man's life tragically cut short. Daniel Vo, a 24-year-old male from Boston, was found shot on Rowe Street. Police responded to reports of the shooting at approximately 3 p.m. and pronounced Vo dead at the scene.
The investigation into Vo's death unfolded over several months.
Initially, no arrests were made, and the Boston Police Department appealed to the public for any information regarding the fatal daytime shooting. In October 2019, a suspect was taken into custody. Anderson Lugo Vargas, then 23, of Norwood, was arrested and charged with the murder of Daniel Vo.
Subsequent legal proceedings revealed the chilling details of Vo's last moments. It was determined that Lugo Vargas had driven Vo to Rowe Street on a motorcycle. Shortly after they were out of view of a residential surveillance camera, gunshots were fired. Lugo Vargas was then seen leaving the area alone on the motorcycle. Evidence presented by the prosecution included surveillance footage and forensic findings. Investigators found gunshot residue on a pair of pants Lugo Vargas had discarded at a car wash, and the victim's blood was found on the motorcycle. A broken mirror found under Vo's body was matched to the motorcycle Lugo Vargas was driving. In March 2022, Anderson Lugo Vargas pleaded guilty to manslaughter and firearm possession in connection with Daniel Vo's death. He was sentenced to 22 to 24 years in state prison for the killing.
