On August 11, 2020, at approximately 9:51 PM, the New Bedford Police Department responded to a report of a possible shooting in the area of 139 Dartmouth Street. Upon arrival, officers found the victim, Ausarmaat Rahotep, a 41-year-old man, who had been shot seven times. Rahotep, also known to his family as Carlos Toty Dos Santos, was a truck driver originally from Georgia but was residing in New Bedford with his sister due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
